Many hybrid IEMs have an audible transition zone between the dynamic driver and the BA, a coherence gap you notice in vocals or upper mids. The 7HZ Sonus was built around that specific problem: one BA and one dynamic driver, tuned to sound like a single unit.

1DD+1BA hybrid driver: coherence over complexity

Combining a dynamic driver (DD) with a balanced armature (BA) usually brings an integration problem: timbre and tonality that shift character depending on the frequency, because each driver reproduces a different part of the spectrum. The Sonus focuses on acoustic and electrical engineering built to merge the two into a continuous response, instead of stacking more BAs to paper over the gap. Fewer drivers, tuned to work as one.

10Hz-20kHz response and THD below 1%

Full coverage of the audible spectrum, from 10Hz to 20kHz, with total harmonic distortion (THD) below 1%. In practice, bass hits with impact and speed without losing definition, and the finer details in a recording don’t get lost in the noise. 30Ω impedance and 109dB/V sensitivity make the Sonus easy to drive from a phone or a simple dongle, no dedicated amp needed.

Construction: medical-grade front chamber, aviation-grade aluminum back

The front chamber uses a medical-grade material, chosen both to optimize sound propagation and to be safe for extended skin contact. The back is aviation-grade aluminum, light but durable. The shape was designed from molds of the human ear canal, for a comfortable fit in long sessions without having to think about it.

Detachable silver-plated OCC cable

The included cable is silver-plated OCC (single-crystal copper), with 49 wires per core in a 4-core braided structure. It’s light and built to maximize signal transmission. Being detachable (0.78mm 2-pin connector), you can swap it for a different cable later, and the swap also protects the IEM’s lifespan if the cable wears out first.

Team opinion

The 7HZ Sonus makes sense if you want to try a hybrid without paying for multi-BA complexity: one well-tuned DD and one well-tuned BA usually sound more coherent than configurations with more, less integrated drivers.
