Fosi Audio K5 Pro – Compact Gaming DAC/AMP with Mic Input, USB/Optical/Coaxial

Key Features:

  • Plug-and-Play on PS5, PC, Mac & Switch — No Drivers – USB-C bus-powered, no external power supply needed. Connect to your PS5 front USB-C port, select Fosi K5 Pro as audio device, and you’re done. Works the same on PC, Mac, and Nintendo Switch without installing anything.
  • Three Digital Inputs — USB, Optical, Coaxial – USB handles up to 24bit/96kHz; Optical and Coaxial go up to 24bit/192kHz. Connect your PC via USB, your TV via optical, and switch between them with the front knob — no rewiring needed.
  • 1000mW @16Ω — Enough for Most Headphones – The TI NE5532 op-amp delivers 500mW @32Ω and 300mW @64Ω. Covers IEMs, gaming headsets, and most over-ear headphones up to 300Ω. Not for planar magnetics at high impedance — the K7 is the right answer for those.
  • Hardware Bass & Treble Controls – Three dedicated knobs: Bass, Treble, Volume. No software, no app. Dial in more low-end for immersive gaming or open up the treble for positional clarity in competitive FPS — instantly, while in-game.
  • 3.5mm Microphone Input — Works with Any Gaming Headset – Supports TRRS headsets via the included splitter. Mic input works in USB mode only. Replaces your onboard sound card mic input with a cleaner signal path — relevant if noise cancellation on your headset keeps cutting out your voice.

Fosi Audio K5 Pro – Compact Gaming DAC/AMP with Mic Input, USB/Optical/Coaxial

The Fosi Audio K5 Pro is a bus-powered desktop DAC and headphone amplifier built for gamers who want a clean signal chain without complexity or budget pressure. It replaces your onboard sound card with a dedicated TI NE5532 op-amp circuit, adds three digital inputs, hardware EQ, and a microphone input — all in a 251g aluminum box that sits next to your keyboard and runs entirely off USB power.

Inputs & Connectivity

USB-C input handles 24bit/96kHz and doubles as the power source — no wall adapter needed. Optical and Coaxial both support up to 24bit/192kHz, making the K5 Pro a practical hub for multiple sources: PC via USB, TV or console via optical, CD player or DAP via coaxial. Input switching is done through the front-panel volume knob. The 3.5mm microphone input works exclusively in USB mode — in Optical or Coaxial mode, mic passthrough is disabled.

Output Power & Headphone Compatibility

The NE5532 op-amp delivers 1000mW @16Ω, 500mW @32Ω, and 300mW @64Ω. This covers the majority of gaming headsets, IEMs, and over-ear headphones in the 16–300Ω range. IEMs with very low impedance may show a slight noise floor in silent passages — audible between tracks but not during gameplay. For sensitive IEMs as a primary use case, the K5 Pro works but isn't optimal. For everything else, it has enough headroom.

The 3.5mm output doubles as a line-out for active speakers — connect to powered monitors or a stereo amplifier via the RCA outputs on the rear panel without touching the headphone output.

Bass, Treble & Volume Controls

Three separate hardware knobs on the top panel: Bass, Treble, and Volume. Both tone controls click to a detented neutral position at 12 o'clock — no software reset needed. Pushing bass past the 3 o'clock position introduces audible distortion, particularly on IEMs, so treat the useful range as roughly 9 to 3. Within that range, the EQ is genuinely useful for adapting your headphones to different use cases without running an equalizer app in the background.

Gamer Unlocked Take

The K5 Pro is the answer to a specific problem: your PC or PS5's onboard audio is noticeably bad, you want to fix it without spending much, and you don't want to think about it after setup. It's not competing with the K7 — it doesn't have balanced output, it doesn't have Bluetooth, it doesn't have a display. It has three inputs, a headphone output, a mic input, and hardware EQ. That's the brief, and it executes it cleanly.

For gamers on a first DAC/AMP, this is where we'd point them. The jump from onboard audio to the K5 Pro is audible and immediate — positional cues tighten up, background noise drops, and the mic signal stops triggering noise cancellation falsely. At this price, there's nothing in the catalogue that does what it does with this level of simplicity.

Honest note: avoid pairing with very sensitive IEMs if silence between tracks matters to you. And remember mic input is USB-only — Optical and Coaxial are audio-out only.

⚠️ Mic Input Note: Microphone input works in USB mode only. Optical and Coaxial inputs do not pass microphone signal.

⚠️ Xbox Note: Not compatible with Xbox Series X/S (no UAC 1.0/0 support). Xbox One is supported via Optical input (audio out only, no mic).
