ATK Blazing Sky Phantom Ultimate Wireless Gaming Mouse

Below 50g, every gram you shave off usually comes out of battery life, rigidity or accessories. The ATK Blazing Sky Phantom Ultimate gets down to 44g with a carbon fibre structure and gives up none of that: PAW3955 Master sensor, 8000Hz and two 8K receivers in the box. It’s a compact mouse, built for small to medium hands that play FPS and want to feel the mouse as little as possible.

Carbon fibre and 44g

The shell uses a hollow carbon fibre composite, which keeps it at 44 ± 3 g without moving to magnesium. It measures 119.7 × 62.5 × 37.3 mm, a compact size that works best with claw and fingertip grips.

The Nano Coating finish gives a dry grip that holds up in long sessions and with warm hands.

PAW3955 Master sensor and Nordic 54LM20 MCU

The PAW3955 Master reaches 40,000 DPI (50,000 overclocked), 850 IPS and 75 G, with LOD adjustable between 0.7 and 1.7 mm. The max DPI is mostly headroom: what matters in game is the 850 IPS, which keeps tracking locked on a fast flick, and the low LOD, for players who lift the mouse a lot.

The Nordic 54LM20 MCU runs ApexShark MAX firmware, with a claimed latency of 0.174 ms.

8000Hz with GEM 8K and Nano 8K

The box includes two receivers. The GEM 8K is larger and sits next to the mousepad, so the signal has the shortest path. The Nano 8K is small and can stay plugged into a laptop without sticking out of the USB port.

Both reach 8000Hz, which cuts the gap between reports from 1 ms to 0.125 ms. You notice it in competitive FPS with a high refresh rate monitor; for everything else, 1000Hz is enough and saves battery. We explain the differences in our polling rate guide.

Omron optical switches and battery life

The main buttons use Omron optical switches, which actuate with a light beam and don’t suffer the contact wear that causes double-clicking. The scroll wheel has a Raesha optical encoder.

The 300mAh battery is rated for up to 200 hours at 1000Hz. It connects by cable or 2.4GHz, with no Bluetooth. DPI, polling and buttons are set in ATK HUB v3.0, in the browser, with nothing to install.

GAMER UNLOCKED TEAM’S TAKE

Who it’s for: Small to medium hands that play FPS at low sensitivity and want one of the lightest mice around without giving up 8K or a top sensor. The two receivers are a real plus if you switch between a desktop and a laptop.

Who it’s not for: For large hands or a palm grip, the compact size falls short. It’s also not for anyone who needs Bluetooth. If you’re still deciding on a shape, see the 6 key factors in choosing a gaming mouse.

Honest notes: One review noticed the mouse gives no low battery warning, so it’s worth getting into the habit of charging it regularly. The claimed weight has a ± 3 g tolerance.
